In compliance with the Administrative Order on Consent between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the County of Hawai‘i that requires the closure of the Nā‘ālehu Large Capacity Cesspools, the County announces the availability of the Nā‘ālehu Draft Environmental Information Document (Draft EID), and also at this website:
https://www.dem.hawaiicounty.gov/projects/pahala-na-alehu-large-capacity-cesspool-closures
The County also announces that the public comment period on the Draft EID is now open and will end Friday, October 11, 2024. Comments on the Draft EID will receive a response and will be incorporated into the Final EID.
The Draft EID tentatively identifies the County’s preferred alternative to be a package wastewater treatment plant with new collection system (Alternative 1) and among other things will provide a draft basis for the tentative selection.
The public meeting to gather community input on the Draft Environmental Information Document is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, October 10, at the Nā‘ālehu Community Center, 95-5635 Mamalahoa Highway.
